SUMMER 2022

Message from Michelle Mifflin, DO – AzACOFP President

Dear Fellow Family Physician,

It was wonderful to be back in person for the AzACOFP Annual Meeting and convene with our osteopathic family physician colleagues!

Some of what we learned – and confirmed – over the past two plus years will remain with us as we “get back to normal” with our patients and peers.

  • Telehealth is here to stay! Before the pandemic, Medicare patients needed to be physically located in a rural area to access telehealth services, shutting out urban and suburban patients from receiving the same benefits of virtual care. Changes in insurance coverages allow all patients to access telehealth services in their home.
  • Our patients trust their primary care physician to lead their care. Family medicine physicians play a vital role in ensuring that patients have access to preventive care and disease-state treatment resources and coordinating referrals as necessary.
  • Osteopathic principles and practices achieve the highest levels of health. Our distinctive osteopathic medical philosophy kept our patients in charge of their own health and emphasized lifestyle and behavioral approaches while avoiding the harms inherent in overtesting and polypharmacy.

The mission of the AzACOFP is to promote osteopathic family medicine, and to enhance osteopathic identity and distinctiveness in Arizona through education and service to the public and osteopathic medical profession. You state Society is here to be your voice here in Arizona and nationally.

But we need more Arizona osteopathic family physicians to join us. There is power in numbers and the more members we have the stronger and more supportive we can be for each other. We are a Specialized group of Physicians some employed, some self-employed and every one of us can make a difference, and it starts here locally. Renew your membership and bring a friend or two along with you. Dues are just $100 per year! Visit www.azacofp.org to learn more.

We want to hear from you. Email us at acofp@azosteo.org
